Economic Hardship: Ohanaeze Urges Tinubu To Consult Okonjo-Iweala, Adesina, Others For Solution

February 09, (THEWILL) – The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on President Bola Ahamed Tinubu to quickly address the economic and social hardship faced by Nigerians under his administration.

Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in a statement on Thursday, advised Tinubu to engage distinguished economists such as former Minister of Finance and current Director-General, World Trade Organisation, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; economic policy expert, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili; and the President, African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, among others to find a lasting solution to Nigeria’s economic hardship.

Isiguzoro said, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the esteemed voice of the Igbo, firmly attributes the current economic hardship, inflation, and uncertainties plaguing the Nigerian economy to the incompetence, nepotism-based appointments, and corruption perpetuated by the Buhari government and inherited by the Tinubu government, which has further exacerbated these issues.

“Nigerians are enduring immense suffering, as the prices of essential commodities soar to unprecedented levels. The prevailing anger in the country is a testament to the unbearable pain of hunger that its citizens are forced to endure.

“Compounded by the weakening Naira due to the forex exchange situation, Nigerians have grown weary of hollow promises from the Federal Government. The time has come for immediate action to assuage the concerns of the people.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo adamantly asserts that seeking assistance from distinguished economists such as Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, and other highly reputable experts, solely based on merit and not on tribe or origin, is essential in rectifying the economy and providing viable solutions for Nigeria’s well-being.

“Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, strongly advises President Tinubu that the path to success lies in concrete and genuine consultations with these world-renowned economists.

“By drawing upon their expertise, a tangible and swift roadmap for Nigeria’s economic recovery can be forged while simultaneously reducing the burden of governance costs. Tinubu must initiate a comprehensive overhaul of the economic team, as their evident lack of innovative ideas, competence, and determination has rendered them incapable of navigating the economy out of its current quagmire.

“Nigerians’ patience is rapidly waning, and the nation teeters on the edge of chaos. Ohanaeze Ndigbo fervently prays for divine guidance to help President Tinubu see beyond the veil of sycophantic aides and embrace competent individuals to salvage Nigeria’s economy.

“In conclusion, Ohanaeze Ndigbo solemnly pledges its unwavering commitment to championing the rights and interests of all Nigerians. Urgent and resolute action must be taken to address the prevailing economic hardships suffered by our nation. We implore President Tinubu to heed our counsel and take the necessary steps to secure a prosperous future for every Nigerian.”
