September 13, (THEWILL) – Inter Milan’s UEFA Champions League campaign got off to a much-needed winning record with a 2-0 victory over 10-man Viktoria Plzen thanks to goals from Edin Dzeko and Denzel Dumfries.
Last Wednesday’s loss to Bayern Munich meant Inter had to perform in the Czech Republic, and once Dzeko swept home in the first half, they never looked like they would lose a second straight game.
Inter’s dominance was solidified by Pavel Bucha’s straight red-cars dismissal, and Dumfries secured the victory when Dzeko switched on the offensive and secured an assist to go with his earlier goal with 20 minutes left.
The victory gives Simone Inzaghi’s team some much-needed momentum before the daunting possibility of back-to-back matches with Group C rivals Barcelona.
Inter play their next Serie A match on Sunday at Udinese, while Plzen hosts Slavia Prague in the Czech First League.
