Dortmund’s Assistant Manager Hermann Retires For Health Reasons

December 07, (THEWILL) – Peter Hermann, an assistant manager with Borussia Dortmund, has retired from his role and ended a long career in football due to health issues.

As a member of Edin Terzic’s backroom team, Dortmund hired the well-respected 70-year-old in June. Hermann has coached German football for more than 30 years and has taken the sidelines for more than 1,000 matches in the Bundesliga, 2.Bundesliga, and DFB-Pokal.

He formerly held two positions as an assistant at Bayern Munich, where he and Jupp Heynckes, both contributed to the team’s illustrious treble in the 2012/2013 season.

A statement from Sebastian Kehl, Dortmund’s Sporting Director, announcing that Hermann had left his position with immediate effect, said: “Peter has asked us for his release for health reasons. It goes without saying that we have complied with his wish.

“We were incredibly happy last summer that Peter – although his personal life plans didn’t include it at the time – decided to spend another year in professional football for BVB. In him, we are not only losing an experienced, technically excellent coach, but also a great person.”

Hermann himself said: “My time at BVB was short and yet very intense. I’ve come to appreciate this club, the team and the entire environment over the past few months. I’ve enjoyed working for a club that loves and lives football so much. Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to work longer for Dortmund because, of course, health always comes first.”
