January 08, (THEWILL) –Â Borussia Dortmund stunned Eintracht Frankfurt with a 3-2 comeback victory at Deutsche Bank Park after falling behind by two goals.
Despite Dortmund’s strong start, which saw a long-range Thomas Meunier effort deflected onto the post within a minute, Frankfurt took the lead from a set-piece after a quarter of an hour.
Rafael Santos Borre tapped home Filip Kostic’s delivery, despite Gregor Kobel’s best efforts to keep it out. Borre received his brace in just ten minutes, finishing in the bottom-left corner.
Dortmund came close to equalising near the conclusion of the first half. Mats Hummels met Marco Reus’ corner, but Kevin Trapp saved it before Donyell Malen smashed the rebound against the post.
With 20 minutes remaining, the visitors finally got their teeth into it, as replacement Thorgan Hazard finished brilliantly from inside the box.
At the 87th minute, just three minutes away from regulation time, Dortmund equalised with Jude Bellingham heading in Thomas Meunier’s cross.
It was left to Mahmoud Dahoud to clinch a famous victory in the 89th minute which he did with a long-range strike that reached the bottom corner to silence the home fans and throw the visiting supporters into wild celebrations.
