Don’t Kill Ebonyi PDP – Ex-Party Chairman Warns Detractors

June 09, (THEWILL) – The immediate past caretaker Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Nwele Peter Onyemaechi, has issued a stern warning to some members of the party who are kicking against the list of the new caretaker committee constituted by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

Some stakeholders of the party, including its deputy governorship candidate in the last gubernatorial election, Senator Igwe Nwagu and Senator Michael Ama Nnachi, had written to the NWC complaining that names on the caretaker list were former members of the party who defected to the APC.

However, according to Onyemaechi, the group complaining already has nine names on the caretaker list, while the NVC, Senator Dr. Sam Egwu and Hon. Idu Igariwey, as stakeholders of the party, were allowed to nominate one name each.

“I cannot understand why they are fretting and making so much noise. The National Working Committee, in her wisdom, is trying to make peace and bring everybody to a round table discussion, advocating that there should be nominees from each local government – one person from each local government, making it thirteen.

“Now, they went behind and did all the nominations by themselves and when other stakeholders complained, the NWC said that the NVC is supposed to nominate from his local government, Senator Dr. Sam Egwu as leader of the party, former governor, former senator and Idu Igariwey, the only person that survived the Obidient movement and won his election, they should now nominate.

“Now, out of these thirteen persons, they nominated four whereas these people that are shouting blue murder have nine. What are they talking about and why are they afraid? It is just sheer greed and the anxiety and quest to carry out their already hatched plan. If not, how would our candidate in the 2023 gubernatorial election be an appointee of the Lagos State APC government?

“He is and always has been a member of the governing board of the Lagos State University. He is the first known Igbo man to be appointed into that board. The records are there. He is an appointee of the Lagos State APC and he is looking for structure in Ebonyi. What is he doing with it?

“His emergence as a governorship candidate of the party in 2023 saw the exit of foundation members of the party, including the likes of the former President of the Senate and former Secretary to the Government of the federal republic, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim; Senator Obinna Ogba, who has been a party chairman, council chairman; Sylvester Ogbaga was a four-time house of representatives member, former House of Assembly members and many people left the party.

“He forcefully came, manoeuvred his way and grabbed the ticket of the party and what was the result? How many votes was he able to gather? He was only able to narrowly win one local government, the rest he lost because he breached the principle of rotation in the governorship of Ebonyi State. And the result was obvious and they want to do the same thing again.

“Our party is obvious – Power to the people. Allow the people to choose who will be for them. But at every point in time, he runs to court because he feels he is blessed with financial resources. In fact, he boasts that no Ebonyi man has the financial resources available to him. We wish him good luck. All we know is that our party will come out stronger.

“At the moment, we are engaging in a party membership drive as directed by the NWC through the ZWC. That is what every state in the southeast is doing, Ebonyi inclusive. It is just a mere distraction so that they will be able to weaken the party ahead of the 2027 general election.

“We are focused and the party is committed. I was the immediate past caretaker chairman, even though by this appointment, I ceased to be the caretaker chairman, but I am a party man. I abide by the party because party decisions are supreme. I will continue to be a party man and I will continue to support my party irrespective of whatever,” he declared.
