December 20, (THEWILL) – The Federal Controller of Works in Cross River state, Engineer Bassey Nsentip, has advised residents in the state not to abuse public infrastructure in the state.
These include the Ikom Bridge, which is worth over N9 billion, as well as the Mfum Border Bridge, which will cost the government over $36 million3.
While the Ikom Bridge will facilitate trade between Cross River state and the northern part of the country, the Mfum Border Bridge will facilitate trade between Nigeria and Cameroon.
Engineer Nsentip disclosed this in Calabar after receiving the award of excellence by the Nigeria Society of Engineers.
He said, “Take these investments as your own, claim ownership and protect them from abuse.
“You should not cut across these roads because when you cut across it to lay pipes and cables you destroy the roads.
“Don’t go and dump dirts in our line drainages because that blocks the drains cause flooding and abuse the environment.
“Protect these investments that government has provided for the good of the people and country.”
He said he is elated over the projects, particularly the Ikom Bridge, which addresses major obstacles to inter state trade.
He commended the Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) for promptly responding to a memo from him to construct the bridge.
On Calabar Itu Road, he said the project was awarded a long time ago but no funding.
He expressed optimism that with the window of funding that has opened up through the NNPC Tax Credit, the road, which stretches to Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom state, will be completed.
