Don Tasks Govt On Alternative Mechanism To End Insecurity

February 14, (THEWILL) – A University Don, Prof Abubakar Mu’azu, has urged leaders at all levels to understand the complexity and root cause of crises, saying violence can’t be resolved with violence.

Mu’azu, Who is the Dean of Social Science, University of Maiduguri, stated this while speaking during a Public Presentation of Charters of Demand from Survivors, Victim’s Relatives and De-radicalized Women, funded by UKAID, which was organised by Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development, in Maiduguri, on Wednesday.

Prof Mu’azu urged the government to adopt an endurance mechanism for sustaining peace in the nation.

“You can’t resolve violence with violence. In all situations, whether it is war or it is a violent communal conflict, you discover that at the end of the day, you must abandon violence and come to the table to resolve the problems.

“This is why violence can not resolve violence, it can only perpetrate circles of violence and then the atrocities will continue, the killing will continue, destruction will continue, tension will continue and fear will continue.

“So, this vicious circle should not be allowed to continue, particularly in the northeast where people have recognised the simple way to end the insurgency. It is just learning how to forgive so that the crisis can stop. I think we must learn to forgive one another so that peace can reign in the region,” Prof Mu’azu warned.

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Zuwaira Gambo, explained that the state government has good synergy with the military and other security agencies.

She assured that all issues raised would be looked into without any delay.

In her opening remarks, the Executive Director, Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development, Hajiya Hamsatu Allamin, said the charter comprised the demands of the survivors and victims from the government, security agencies, NGOs, traditional and religious leaders, community members and other stakeholders for proper rehabilitation and a prosperous life.
