May 25, (THEWILL) – With a 6-2 6-3 7-6(4) win over Alex Molcan, defending champion Novak Djokovic advanced to the third round of the French Open, overcoming a wobble in the third set.

After cruising through the first two games, Djokovic had to dig deep in the third set as Molcan raised his game in the windy circumstances on Court Suzanne-Lenglen.

While the match was rather easy for the most part, Djokovic admitted that the windy circumstances made it difficult. “It was a difficult match,” Djokovic said in his on-court interview. “The conditions were not easy. There was a lot of wind and it changed direction a lot. It meant that I had to concentrate a lot and I had to adapt.”

Djokovic’s sharpness has improved throughout the European spring after a contentious start to the year that saw him deported from Australia and miss the first Grand Slam of 2022.

He won the Italian Open for the sixth time, indicating that he was nearing the end of his preparations for the French Open defence. Djokovic will face Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia in the third round.
