Djokovic Advances To Wimbledon Final With Commanding Semi-Final Win Over Sinner

July 14, (THEWILL) – Novak Djokovic moved within one victory of his 24th Grand Slam title and eighth Wimbledon crown, after a commanding straight-sets win over Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals.

In a composed and controlled performance, Djokovic defeated the eighth seed 6-3 6-4 7-6(4) in a match that lasted two hours and 46 minutes. The Serbian’s victory sets up a final clash with either Carlos Alcaraz or Daniil Medvedev, with the chance to regain the world number ranking if the latter loses his semi-final. Djokovic’s win extends his remarkable winning streak at Wimbledon to 34 matches as he aims for his fifth consecutive title and a chance to equal Roger Federer’s record of eight overall Wimbledon titles.

Despite Jannik Sinner’s spirited performance in last year’s quarter-final, where he pushed Djokovic to five sets, the Italian was unable to find an answer to his opponent’s power and precision in their first-ever Grand Slam semi-final encounter. Djokovic acknowledged the competitiveness of the match, stating that the scoreline did not truly reflect the intensity on the court. He also praised Sinner, acknowledging his position as one of the leaders of the next generation and one of the world’s best players.

The Centre Court roof was closed due to rain, creating a charged atmosphere that resonated with booming winners from Sinner. However, Djokovic managed to save break points and take control of the match early on. Sinner had his chances, particularly in the third set where he held a 15-40 lead at 5-4, but missed shots allowed Djokovic to force a tie-break. The Serbian, despite feeling the pressure, showed his big-match resolve and sealed the victory.

Throughout the match, Djokovic maintained his composure despite receiving hindrance calls and a time warning, ultimately securing his place in yet another Wimbledon final.
