May 25, (THEWILL) – World Cup-winning Argentine, Angel Di Maria, is reportedly poised to leave Juventus as a free agent, bringing to an end a brief one-season stint in Turin.
THEWILL recalls that last summer, Di Maria inked a one-year contract with Juve following the expiration of his Paris Saint-Germain deal. Although he encountered a turbulent start in Serie A, being sent off for violent conduct during a defeat to Monza, Di Maria experienced a remarkable upturn in form during the initial months of 2023.
Di Maria played a pivotal role in Juventus’ journey to the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League, notably scoring a hat-trick against Nantes in February and securing a crucial winner against Freiburg the following month. Nevertheless, the 35-year-old has struggled to contribute any goals or assists in his last 14 appearances, eliciting frustration from fans, particularly due to his lacklustre performances in the semi-final clashes against Sevilla.

Furthermore, negotiations for a one-year extension between Di Maria’s representatives and Juve have hit an impasse, leading to his imminent departure from the club. Reports monitored by THEWILL have confirmed that there is considerable interest in Di Maria from Major League Soccer (MLS) and Saudi Arabian clubs as he enters the market as a free agent for the second consecutive summer.
The current position is that both Di Maria and the club have concurred that parting ways at the conclusion of this season is the most suitable course of action. The veteran forward boasts prior extensive tenures at European powerhouses Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, with the former resulting in a UEFA Champions League triumph in 2014.
