Democracy Day: Fintiri Frees Six Prison Imates In Adamawa

June 12, (THEWILL) – Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Fintiri has freed six inmates serving various prison terms in five Correctional Centres across the State.

The Governor also commuted the death sentence of another inmate to life imprisonment.

A statement issued on Sunday, by Humwashi Wonosikou, the Press Secretary to the Governor, said the development was in commemoration of this year’s June 12 Democracy Day as part of efforts to decongest some of the overburdened Correctional Centres as Nigeria marks Democracy Day.

This, it said, was in exercise of the Governor’s power, conferred on him by Section 212 (i)(b) of Nigeria’s Constitution and following recommendations of the Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.

The statement explained that the seven inmates are currently serving their jail terms in Yola old, Jada, Numan, Mubi, and Jimeta Correctional facilities.
