Delta APC Chieftain Backs Ndiomu To Reorganize Amnesty Programme

November 13, (THEWILL) – A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State, High Chief Michael Johnny, has urged the Interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Major General Barry Tariye Ndiomu (retd), to focus on reorganizing the Amnesty programme.

He also noted that the Amnesty boss has not done anything wrong to be criticized unjustly.

Johnny, who spoke to newsmen on Sunday in Warri, Delta State, pointed out that it is too early to unnecessarily distract Ndiomu from discharging his appointed duty.

He said: ” I don’t have any contract in the Presidential Amnesty Office, and I am not seeking for any, however, let me caution our people to stop the act and habit of criticising any Ijaw man in office. The Interim Administrator has been going around consulting relevant stakeholders and seeking for possible collaboration that will redefine and transform the Amnesty Programme.”

Johnny, who is also the former Chairman of Egbema and Gbaramatu Communuties Development Foundation, EGCDF, urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Security Adviser, NSA, to ignore any allegations against Ndiomu, adding that the Interim Administrator should be supported and allowed to do his work.

“Let me also caution the Federal Government to jettison any plan to terminate or scrap the Presidential Amnesty Programme. The programme was established to specifically address the special needs of the ex-militants and to sustain peace in Niger Delta region. There are ex-militants yet to be captured and integrated into the Amnesty Programme, which the Amnesty office must quickly do something about it.”

He expressed optimism that Ndiomu has the capacity and experience to reorganize the Amnesty programme and should be encouraged to fix some of the errors done by previous coordinators that had derailed the aims and objectives of the programme.

“The Interim Administrator, Major General Barry Tariye Ndiomu (retd), was recently appointed and new in office. It is too premature to criticise him when he has done nothing wrong. However, some of us are watching him and certainly would criticise him if he does anything wrong, but for now he has not done any wrong. We should encourage him and present to him ideas and strategies that help him to succeed.”
