March 20, (THEWILL) – In his first open endorsement of any aspirant for office in the 2023 general elections, a former Governor of Delta State and key player in the politics of the state, Chief James Ibori has lashed out at incumbent Governor of the State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, who is clearly on a mission to reduce his influence in the political affairs of the state, especially within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
THEWILL exclusively reports that relations between Okowa and Ibori has dramatically taken a turn for the worse lately, and it now appears that both men will fight to the finish line as we approach the primaries.
Ibori spoke yesterday at a political rally in Mosogar, Ethiope West LGA, for Senator Ighoyota Amori, an aspirant for the Delta Cental Senatorial District under the PDP.
Ibori is backing his long-trusted political associate, Amori, a former two-term Commissioner in the State under his administration, while Okowa is backing Chief John Nani, a former Commissioner of Environment and presently an Executive Director at DESOPADEC.
He said: “I am behind Senator Ighoyota Amori every step on the way, every step of the way, every step of the way. If anybody, anyone that is conspiring, anybody that thinks that because I am now a former governor they want to conspire to disgrace me, God will disgrace all of them.
“This is my senatorial district, I am a stakeholder in this party (PDP) and I am a stakeholder in Urhobo, this is my place of birth, I am with Senator Amori all the way…”
THEWILL authoritatively reports that Okowa and Ibori are also at loggerheads over who emerges governorship candidate of the PDP. While Ibori is backing Mr. David Edevbie, Okowa is backing Sheriff Oborevwori, the Speaker of the House of Assembly [both aspirants are from Delta Central] and also favouring Deputy Governor, Kingsley Otuaro and Senator James Manager [both Ijaws from Delta South].
