August 11, (THEWILL) – It was a new beginning for Kano Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at the weekend, as Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi leads young Turks in a historic change of guard in the ancient city of Kano.
The swearing in ceremony attracted top flight NUJ chieftains, a huge but quality crowd of orderly members of the 4th estate of the Realm was at hand at the famous Press Centre in Kano to add colour to the occasion.
Other idealistic individuals that took Oath of office alongside Mr Dederi as Chairman, include Mustapha Gambo of the Pyramid FM Radio, Vice Chairman, Ace Sports writer, and immediate past SWAN Secretary, Abubakar Shehu Kwaru, Secretary, while Hajiya Hauwa Zaharaddeen of Radio Kano was sworn in as Assistant Secretary.
Nura Bala Ajingi, Treasurer, Abdullahi Hassan (Financial Secretary) and Salisu Kasim (Auditor).
In his inaugural address, Suleiman Abdullahi Dederi, pledged to prioritise professionalism, and as well enhance members’ welfare.
Dederi said: “As we embark on this new chapter, I am committed to upholding the highest standards of journalism, fostering a culture of integrity, and advocating for the rights and welfare of all journalists in Kano State.
“I must acknowledge the exemplary efforts of the outgoing executive. Their dedication and hard work have laid a solid foundation upon which we will continue to build,” he said.
He commended the immediate past leadership of the NUJ for their inclusiveness and open door policy that helped immensely in knitting the union.
The outgoing chairman, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, tasked the new Executives to propel the NUJ Kano chapter to the next level.
