Dannaz Ladies, Honey Badgers Halt Unbeaten Runs Of Ekiti, Lakeside Queens In NWFL Championship

July 13, (THEWILL) – Dannaz Ladies and Honey Badgers emerged as victors on Matchday Four of the 2023 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Championship, ending the unbeaten runs of Ekiti Queens and Lakeside Queens, respectively.

In an intense encounter at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, the game between Dannaz Ladies and Ekiti Queens resulted in a resounding 3-0 win for Dannaz Ladies. Solaty Fatimah stole the show by scoring the first hat-trick of the NWFL Championship, contributing to Dannaz Ladies’ dominant performance. Meanwhile, Honey Badgers managed to halt Lakeside Queens’ unbeaten streak with a thrilling 3-2 victory, thanks to goals from Janet Ikpa, Sofiat Hassan, and Daniel Hellen.

In other matches, DreamStar Ladies secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Moje Queens, with Mustapha Alaba, Owoseni Bukola, and Sanni Aishat finding the back of the net. Delta Babes fought hard to claim a 1-1 draw against Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens, as Mosaku Bisola’s opener was cancelled out by Itobore Destiny. Pelican Stars emerged victorious with a 2-0 scoreline against Kwara Ladies, courtesy of a penalty goal from Adeusi Aalaba and a goal from Ogadinma Ndekani. Sunshine Queens edged past Imo Striker Queens with a 2-1 victory, with goals from Moyin Owolabi and Oscar Precious.

With these results, Dannaz Ladies currently hold the top spot in Group A, on nine points alongside Pelican Stars and Ekiti Queens. DreamStar Ladies follow closely behind with six points, while Kwara Ladies are in fifth place with three points, and Moje Queens are yet to secure a point. In Group B, Lakeside Queens maintain their lead with nine points, leading Sunshine Queens by nine points. Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens sit in third place with seven points, followed by Honey Badgers with four points, Imo Striker Queens with three points, and Delta Babes with two points.

The final matchday, scheduled for Friday, will determine the promotion to the NWFL Premiership as the top teams from Groups A and B face off.
