August 07, (THEWILL) — The Dangote Petroleum Refinery supplied more than 400,000 tonnes of jet fuel to Europe in July, accounting for about 20 per cent of the continent’s total jet fuel imports for the month, according to global commodities intelligence firm Kpler.
The latest figures extend the refinery’s growing presence in the European aviation fuel market, following a record 466,000 tonnes shipped to Europe in June.
Dangote strengthens position in Europe
Kpler’s data showed that Europe imported about 2.06 million tonnes of jet fuel in July, with Dangote Refinery accounting for the largest share of the continent’s imports.
The July shipment came after Nigeria became Europe’s largest supplier of imported aviation fuel in June, overtaking the United States for the first time.

The back-to-back performance highlights the refinery’s growing ability to supply the European market consistently and meet the quality requirements of international aviation fuel buyers.
Production and exports continue to rise
Dangote Refinery’s growing export volumes have been supported by higher production and crude deliveries.
Jet fuel loadings at the refinery’s Lekki export terminal reached about 550,000 tonnes in June, while crude deliveries climbed to a record 660,000 barrels per day.
The increased throughput has enabled the refinery to expand exports of aviation fuel and other refined petroleum products to international markets.
The refinery has increasingly supplied European buyers that have traditionally sourced jet fuel from refiners in the United States, the Middle East and Asia.

Nigeria gains ground in global fuel trade
Industry observers say the refinery’s growing European exports are reshaping established fuel trade flows in the Atlantic Basin.
Its location on Nigeria’s Atlantic coast gives the refinery relatively direct access to European markets, while its scale and export infrastructure have strengthened its ability to compete with established suppliers.
The development also comes amid disruptions to global energy flows linked to geopolitical tensions and uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz.
Although Europe received jet fuel cargoes from suppliers including Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Oman in July, the changing market conditions have increased the importance of supply diversification.
Refinery expands beyond aviation fuel
Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals said its international sales extend beyond jet fuel, with the refinery also exporting diesel, gasoline and other refined petroleum products to markets across Europe, Africa and other regions.
David Bird, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals, said the refinery’s expanding exports were strengthening Nigeria’s position in the global refined petroleum products market.
The latest export figures reinforce the refinery’s growing role in Nigeria’s shift from dependence on imported refined products towards becoming a significant exporter of petroleum products.
