October 15, (THEWILL) – Dangote Industries Limited and the Botswana Stock Exchange have commended Nigerian Exchange Group for bringing African exchanges together to expand cross-border investment opportunities through the ongoing roadshow for the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE offer.

The commendation came on Wednesday at an investor engagement in Gaborone, Botswana, following an earlier meeting in Nairobi, Kenya. The roadshow is part of NGX Group’s broader initiative to strengthen cooperation among African capital markets and improve access to investment opportunities across the continent.

Murat Erden, Group Chief Financial Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, praised NGX Group, under the leadership of Group Chairman, Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga, and Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Temi Popoola, for galvanising exchanges around the initiative.

He recalled that the collaboration began with an engagement convened by NGX Group in Lagos in April 2026, noting the importance of partnerships in connecting investors across different African markets.

Erden also highlighted the role of digital innovation in expanding access to the offer, particularly the integration of WhatsApp into NGX Invest, NGX Group’s electronic public-offering platform.

He acknowledged the collaboration between NGX Group and participating exchanges in reaching investors within their respective markets.

Aobakwe Aupa Monyatsi, Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana Stock Exchange, welcomed the initiative, emphasising the value of cooperation among African exchanges and the potential to increase investor participation by encouraging more markets to join the effort.

NGX seeks stronger African capital-market links

At the earlier engagement in Nairobi, Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, commended Kwairanga and Popoola for advancing collaboration among African capital-market institutions.

Dangote said stronger relationships between exchanges could allow companies to raise capital across multiple markets rather than depend solely on their domestic exchanges.

He cited the proposed refinery project in Mokowe-Lamu, Kenya, as an example of how businesses operating across national borders could explore opportunities to list in more than one market.

The approach reflects efforts to improve connections between African exchanges and broaden the pool of investors available to companies seeking capital for expansion.

Greater cooperation could also make it easier for investors in one market to access opportunities in another, although the extent of participation will depend on the arrangements put in place by the exchanges involved.

Kwairanga said the initiative was aimed at making it easier for businesses to access capital and investors to participate in opportunities across Africa.

“Our vision is to build stronger connections among African capital markets, making it easier for businesses to access capital and for investors to participate in opportunities across the continent.

The collaboration around the Dangote Refinery offer demonstrates what African exchanges can achieve when we work together towards a shared objective,” he said.

Popoola similarly stressed the need to turn the ambition of continental integration into practical partnerships.

“When we began this engagement, our objective was continental: to bring African exchanges together and explore how we can create stronger connections between African capital markets,” he said.

NGX Invest supports subscriptions through more than 180 distribution channels, including stockbrokers, banks and fintech companies.

The addition of WhatsApp provides another access route for investors interested in participating in the offer.

Roadshow extends to Egypt, Ethiopia

The roadshow will continue with engagements at the Egyptian Exchange and the Ethiopian Securities Exchange, extending discussions with additional African markets on cross-border investment and capital-market cooperation.

The initiative positions the Dangote Refinery offer as a platform for testing how exchanges can work together to reach investors beyond their domestic markets.

Its broader impact will depend on the ability of participating exchanges to translate the engagements into sustained partnerships, wider investor participation, and more accessible cross-border investment opportunities.
