June 24, (THEWILL) – Cypriot football giants, APOEL Nicosia, have made an exciting addition to their squad with the signing of former Nigeria Under-17 international, Fawaz Abdullahi, as revealed in a press release on their official website.

Abdullahi, who featured prominently for the Golden Eaglets in the 2019 U17 Africa Cup of Nations, has inked a three-year contract, committing his future to APOEL until the conclusion of the 2025/2026 season. The 20-year-old midfielder began his professional journey at Bnei Yehuda in Israel before joining Doxa Katokopias in Cyprus last August. His notable achievements include a crucial assist in a 1-0 victory against Olympiakos Nicosia on April 13.

Abdullahi is seen as a generational talent and promising prospect. He will be registered on APOEL’s B list for the upcoming season. As the most successful club in Cypriot football history with 28 national titles, the side has a strong European pedigree as well. Their standout moment came in the 2011/2012 season when they reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. The 20-year-old joins a distinguished list of former players who have represented the club, including retired Nigerian international Michael Obiku and Benjamin Onwuachu, who previously played for Juventus’s youth team.

Signing Abdullahi signifies APOEL’s ambition to bolster the team’s future prospects and maintain their standing as a powerhouse in the Cypriot First Division. They can harness Abdullahi’s potential and contribute to his development as a player. His experience in international competitions, coupled with his impressive performance during his stint at Doxa Katokopias, must have caught the attention of APOEL’s management.

The club’s commitment to nurturing young talent and investing in the future of their squad will also benefit Abdullahi. As he prepares to embark on the next chapter of his career, he will be best served to be diligent and disciplined to contribute to the team’s continued success in the upcoming seasons.
