Cunha Nets Hat-Trick As Wolves Sink Chelsea In Six-Goal Thriller

February 04, (THEWILL) – In a thrilling English Premier League clash on Sunday, Wolverhampton Wanderers completed an impressive comeback to defeat Chelsea 4-2 at Stamford Bridge. The result marked Wolves’ first league double over the Blues since the 1974/1975 campaign.

Chelsea started slowly despite aiming for a fifth straight home win, allowing Wolves chances early on. The hosts eventually took the lead through Cole Palmer, before a quickfire equaliser from Matheus Cunha levelled things up. On the stroke of half-time, Rayan Ait-Nouri put the visitors ahead via an Axel Disasi deflection.

After the break, Chelsea attacked but struggled to break down a stubborn Wolves defence. The away side extended their lead when Neto set up Cunha for his second. Chelsea substitute Nicolas Jackson missed a great chance to pull one back before Cunha sealed his hat trick from the penalty spot after a foul in the box.

Thiago Silva grabbed a late consolation for Chelsea, but it was too little too late as Wolves held on for three vital points, bouncing back from a loss to Manchester United. The defeat leaves an underwhelming Chelsea down in 11th, while Wolves rise to 10th with their first away win in seven league games.
