Crystal Palace Defeat Wolves In Selhurst Second Half Goal Fest

September 03, (THEWILL) – Crystal Palace secured their second English Premier League victory of the season on Sunday, with a 3-2 triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Selhurst Park.

Goals from Odsonne Edouard and Eberechi Eze proved decisive as the Eagles withstood a tough Wolves fightback. The first half was a largely uneventful affair with few clear-cut chances. Once again, Eze thought he should have had a penalty when he went down under a challenge from Joao Gomes but VAR deemed the contact insufficient. Wolves’ only real opening saw Pedro Neto’s effort tipped over by Palace keeper, Sam Johnstone.

However, the drab game exploded into life after the break with all five goals coming in a frenzied second half. Edouard opened the scoring in the 56th minute before Wolves sub Hwang Hee-Chan equalised with a shoulder from Neto’s free kick. Eze restored Palace’s lead with a sublime finish in the 78th minute.

Edouard scored his brace to make it 3-1 six minutes later after Jean-Philippe Mateta teed him up. Eze almost added a fourth but saw his effort well saved as the minutes ticked off. Wolves pulled one back deep into added time through Matheus Cunha but Palace held on to take all three points on offer.

The victory lifts Palace to 7th in the table while Wolves are lower down in 15th place with three points from their opening four matches. Next up for the Eagles is a trip to Villa Park after the international break while Wolves welcome Liverpool to the Molineux Stadium.
