September 18, (THEWILL) – The Cross River State Chapter of the Social Democratic Party has tasked the electorate in the State, to take it upon themselves to clean up the state.
The party disclosed this in Calabar during a sensitisation and cleanup exercise conducted by party faithful in the state.
Newton Bassey, the Southern Senatorial District Candidate of the party said the party is concerned about the huge debris across the state and so decided to take it upon themselves to contribute to cleaning up the state.
The sensitisation and clean-up exercise commenced from Marian market, where the refuse dump was evacuated.
According to Newton, “We are all government and as citizens, we have to look for opportunities to clean up the state because cleanliness should be everybody’s business just like security.
“When our presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, saw the refuse, he said my people go out there and clean the state.
“It is not all about physical work, if you exercise and you are not clean you are not going to be healthy.
“We are marching, will sensitise and tell the people that we are coming to clean up the system.
“We want to tell the people of the state that our state has lost it in terms of cleanliness.
“We were one of the top in terms of cleanliness but our place is now very low.
“The real essence of this exercise is that we will evacuate the refuse and let people know that we can restore the state to its former glory.
“Members of the SDP will evacuate waste first from Mariam market than to other parts of the state in the course of this sensitisation”, he said.
He said its presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, as well as its gubernatorial candidate in the state, Effiom Okokon, are committed to implementing its HEART Agenda.
These he said are Health, Education, Agriculture, Restructuring, and Tourism.
Also speaking, the State Organising Secretary of the party, Oku Eyo Oku, said the environmental awareness and sanitation are to show our unflinching support for Prince Adewole Adebayo, our Presidential candidate, and our dear State.
He added that It’s very pitiful that the state is no longer the same because of the bad leadership of PDP, and APC.
He said the SDP is not just a party, but a platform for good governance and social justice.
