Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks Goalscoring Record With Brace Against Ireland

September 02, (THEWILL) – Cristiano Ronaldo has broken another goalscoring feat as he became the leading goalscorer in international men’s football history.

The 36-year-old attained the feat following his brace in the World Cup qualifiers against Ireland on Wednesday, surpassing the international tally of 109 set by Iran great Ali Daei.

The goals came late in the game, the 89th and 97th minute, after he uncharacteristically lost a penalty, taking his international goals tally to 111.

Ronaldo equalled the record set by Daei, the former captain of the Iran national football team between 2000 and 2006, in July during Euro 2020 where he also surpassed Michel Platini as the all-time Euro top scorer with 11 goals.

He is also the UEFA Champions League all-time leading goal-scorer with 134 goals.
