October 18, (THEWILL) – On Monday, Thibaut Courtois won the 2022 Yashin Trophy as he was named the best goalkeeper in the world by France Football.
The Belgian won the prize for the 2021/2022 season, beating off competition from Alisson Becker, who finished second, Ederson Moraes, Edouard Mendy, and Mike Maignan. Courtois was largely instrumental in Real Madrid’s victory over the Reds in the UCL final in Paris.
His performance in that game was undoubtedly what put him in contention for the award and propelled him to seventh place in the overall Ballon d’Or vote. Courtois made nine saves, which is a UCL final record and was determined to keep a clean sheet for the sake of the victory.
