BEVERLY HILLS, November 02, (THEWILL) – A London High Court has found American actor, Johnny Depp guilty of battering his ex-wife, Amber Heard through their marriage.

THEWILL recalls that the actor had filed a libel suit against Heard and The Sun newspaper.

Depp had sued the Sun’s publisher, News Group Newspapers (NGN), and its executive editor, Dan Wootton, concerning an article published in the newspaper in April 2018 with the headline “Gone Potty: How can JK Rowling be ‘genuinely happy’ casting wife beater Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts film?”

Heard was the newspaper’s chief witness, who tearfully narrated how the actor on 14 occasions during their turbulent relationship assaulted her, showing graphic details of his attacks.

The court found the actor guilty after this revelation and left him with serious consequences to his reputation and could also face financial ruin.

In the ruling by Mr Justice Nicol stated that the publisher has proved the article to be “substantially true” dismissing the claim of Johnny Depp.

“The claimant has not succeeded in his action for libel.

“Although he has proved the necessary elements of his cause of action in libel, the defendants have shown that what they published in the meaning which I have held the words to bear was substantially true.

“I have reached these conclusions having examined in detail the 14 incidents on which the defendants rely as well as the overarching considerations which the claimant submitted I should take into account.

Reacting to this development, Heard’s legal team stated that they were “not surprised” by the result.

“For those of us present for the London High Court trial, this decision and Judgment are not a surprise.

“Very soon, we will be presenting even more voluminous evidence in the U.S. We are committed to obtaining Justice for Amber Heard in the U.S. Court and defending Ms. Heard’s Right to Free Speech,” the judge said.
