January 26, (THEWILL) – Barcelona secured their spot in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey following a 1-0 victory against Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou.
Despite dominating the first half, the hosts were unable to find the back of the net. However, they were handed an advantage when Real Sociedad’s Brais Mendez was sent off in the 40th minute.
In the second half, Ousmane Dembele gave the Blaugrana the lead after being played through by Jules Kounde and finishing past the goalkeeper Alex Remiro. The match was not as close as the scoreline suggested until a late push from Real Sociedad.
Barcelona’s manager Xavi will be looking to bolster his impressive turnaround at Camp Nou by adding another trophy to their recent Supercopa de Espana success. It will be further acknowledgement of the progress they have made since he arrived as coach in November 2021.
Back in La Liga, while Real Sociedad will travel to face Real Madrid in their next tie, Barcelona’s next match will be against Girona and the team will look to continue their winning streak in the upcoming matches.
