December 13, (THEWILL) – Antonio Conte and Tottenham Hotspur are scheduled to meet again this week to discuss a long-term contract for the manager.
Since Conte’s current contract expires at the end of this year, Spurs want to lock him into a new one. The discussions began before the World Cup and were initially scheduled to pick up last week, but Executive Director of football, Fabio Paratici, had other commitments. They are now slated to begin once more tomorrow.
THEWILL recalls that in October, negotiations for a new contract had already begun between club Chairman, Daniel Levy and Conte’s team. The club was confident that Conte would agree to a long-term agreement with better terms.
The discussions this week will include more than just the details of any potential new contract, including its conditions, compensation, duration, and potential break clauses. Tottenham’s aspirations and intentions for the upcoming January transfer window will also be discussed, with Conte particularly interested in establishing that the team has the same aspirations to succeed as he does.
When Conte joined the North London side in November 2021, his contract was only for 18 months, though the club had the option to extend it by another year. He effectively led them to fourth place in the English Premier League in the previous campaign. Before the World Cup break, Spurs had 29 points after 15 games, placing them fourth on the table.
