February 01, (THEWILL) – Tottenham manager, Antonio Conte, will undergo surgery on Wednesday, to remove his gallbladder, the club has announced. Conte has been diagnosed with cholecystitis and is likely to miss the upcoming Premier League match against Manchester City on Sunday.
The club released a statement that read: “Antonio Conte recently became unwell with severe abdominal pain. Following a diagnosis of cholecystitis, he will be undergoing surgery to remove his gallbladder today [Wednesday] and will return following a period of recuperation.”
According to England’s National Health Service (NHS), a minimum of two weeks is required for full recovery after gallbladder removal surgery. This means that Conte will miss a crucial period of games for Tottenham, including matches against Leicester City, West Ham, Chelsea and AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League.
The Tottenham manager, who was in the dugout for the team’s 3-0 win over Preston in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday, is not expected to be fully fit enough for that first leg of the UCL tie against AC Milan, which is scheduled for February 14th.
Conte’s absence will be a big blow for the team, especially with such an important run of games coming up. However, the club is confident that Conte will return to the team following a period of recuperation and that he will continue to contribute to the success of the team.
