March 09, (THEWILL) – Antonio Conte has accepted the possibility of being dismissed by Tottenham Hotspur following their recent UEFA Champions League exit. Their campaign ended in a 1-0 loss on aggregate to Milan, with Spurs managing only two shots on target.
All of the team’s chances of lifting a trophy this season have been dashed, leaving them with only a top-four finish in the English Premier League as their last remaining target. While currently in fourth place, Liverpool and Newcastle United are hot on their heels, making even their top-four push an uncertain goal for the club.
Conte was appointed in November 2021 and is contracted to stay through the end of this season. However, there is a possibility that Tottenham could part ways with the former Juventus, Inter, and Italy boss before then if they feel he is not maximising the team’s potential.
Tottenham’s Chairman, Daniel Levy, will likely consider the team’s prospects before making any decisions. And, Conte has stated that he will respect his contract and make the right assessments with the club at the end of the season.
However, he acknowledges that he could be sent away earlier, as he believes that a coach’s main focus should be on raising the bar and that Tottenham has struggled in that regard this year. Tottenham will face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday.
