Comfortable Juventus See Off Goal-Shy Empoli 2-Nil

September 03, (THEWILL) – Juventus claimed a comfortable 2-0 victory away to Empoli on Sunday evening, to get back to winning ways before the international break.

The visitors were intent on avenging last season’s humiliating 4-1 loss at the Stadio Carlo Castellani and securing the three points this time around. The Bianconeri started slowly and struggled to create clear-cut chances in the opening exchanges with Paul Pogba named on the bench.

However, they took the lead midway through the first half when captain Danilo reacted quickest to prod home after a goalmouth scramble from a corner. Dusan Vlahovic had a glorious chance to double Juve’s advantage before the interval but saw his penalty saved by Empoli keeper Etrit Berisha, following a foul on Federico Gatti.

The Serbian striker endured a frustrating evening in front of goal. Still, Juventus continued to control proceedings and after the break, Federico Chiesa went close as another chance went begging. The Italian winger eventually made it 2-0 in the 82nd minute to wrap up a comfortable win for Massimiliano Allegri’s charges.

Empoli rarely threatened and have now failed to score in their opening three Serie A matches. In contrast, Juve responded well after only managing a 1-1 draw at home to Bologna last time out to stay in touch with the league’s pacesetters. Play in the Serie A will resume after this month’s international break.
