December 15, (THEWILL) – American comedian, actor, writer, producer and director, Christopher Julius Rock, popularly referred to as Chris Rock, has declined to host the Golden Globes in 2024, along with Ali Wong and Smartless hosts, Will Arnett, Sean Hayes and Jason Bateman, according to reports.
The four comedians declined the chance to host the Hollywood Award ceremony on January 7, and the institution has yet to reveal the chosen host.
Rock’s previous stint as a host for a major awards show took a disastrous turn when Will Smith unexpectedly walked on stage and slapped him during the 2022 Oscars.
The Oscars incident unfolded when Rock made a jest about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, quipping, ‘Jada, I love you, G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it!’
The allusion was to the 1997 movie starring Demi Moore with a shaved head.
Pinkett Smith, 51 is diagnosed with alopecia, which results in hair loss.
Will then strode onstage, slapped Rock, and, after returning to his seat, sternly shouted, ‘Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!’ to a bewildered audience.
