September 09, (THEWILL) – China, on Monday, announced that it will conduct joint military exercises with Russia this month, reinforcing the growing strategic ties between the two countries.
Tagged: “North-Joint 2024”, the drill involving the Naval and Air Forces of both countries, will be conducted around the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk.
A statement by China said the drill aims to strengthen strategic cooperation and ability to respond to security threats.
It added that the two nations during this exercise will send fleets to relevant areas in the Pacific Ocean for joint maritime patrols.
China will also participate in Russia’s “Ocean-2024” strategic exercise. The exact dates for the drills were not provided.
This collaboration comes amid increasing military cooperation between the two powers, who have aligned against what they perceive as “Western hegemony” and U.S. dominance in global affairs.
China and Russia have held several military drills recently, with their partnership declaring “no limits” shortly before Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.
