Chibok Falls To Boko Haram As Insurgents Kill 16 In Gwoza

BEVERLY HILLS, November 14, (THEWILL) – It was double tragedy for the residents of Chibok , Friday, as rampaging Boko Haram gunmen recently sacked from Mubi, Adamawa State captured the Borno town where over 200 schoolgirls were abducted on April 14.

This came as the insurgents also killed 16 persons in Gwoza.

Local sources told THEWILL that Chibok eventually fell into the hands of the insurgents following a 24-hour siege which started Thursday night as the terrorists celebrated their conquest of the town with the hoisting of their black flags all over the town on Friday.

A youth vigilante group member, AbdulRasheed Bukar, who confirmed the occupation of the town, said “As I am talking to you, the insurgents have driven many residents of Chibok away and have hoisted their infamous flag at strategic locations in the town.”

According to Bukar, “All I can tell you now is that many people were killed and many have fled the town which is presently occupied by the insurgents.”

A local resident, Maina Abga, said the insurgents stormed Chibok Thursday evening, shooting sporadically as “they rode into the town in a convoy of about three hilux vehicles barely an hour after military troops left.”

According to Abga, “We started hearing gunshots and shouts of Allah Akbar (Allah is great) as soon as they entered the town,” adding “We had to take to our heels.”

The gunmen who also burnt many houses in Chibok , had earlier on Thursday, attacked Gwoza, where they were said to have killed 16 persons.

“Many of the residents of communities behind the Mandara Hills who fled to the mountains, were again pursued by the insurgents on Thursday and 16 persons were killed,” local sources in Gwoza said.
