Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham In €40m Move To Roma

August 10, (THEWILL) – Depending on how the resolution of personal terms are sorted between Serie A side AS Roma and English Premier League club Chelsea, Tammy Abraham will play football next season with the Italian club as the two clubs have already agreed financial terms over a potential deal.

Although the 23-year-old was still training with the Chelsea first-team on Monday, there is nothing at the moment to stand against his transfer. He had been linked with some other clubs such as Atalanta and Arsenal, but Roma appears to have won the race for the player.

It will be another transfer drawback for fellow London club Arsenal, a destination that may have been more appealing to Abraham although it was revealed that the Gunners had not made any overt moves for him previously despite the reports.

Between Roma and Chelsea, the potential deal for Abraham is worth €40m. However, the exact method and timing of payments is not yet finalised as some of the personal terms can influence the final figure. Also, even if it could be a straight transfer, there is the likelihood that it could end up being a loan for a season or two with a payment plan that could turn into a permanent deal at the end.

For the time being, reports have it that the amount of €5m has been agreed up front, while the remaining €35m will be paid over the next season or two to complete the transaction. It is a similar deal to that which Chelsea struck with Atlético Madrid for Álvaro Morata in 2019 and that in 2015 with Juventus for Juan Cuadrado.

When the personal terms are finalised Abraham will move to Rome to join the team Jose Mourinho is putting together at Roma ahead of the 2021/2022 campaign.
