September 29, (THEWILL) – Chelsea have been dealt a blow with the news that left-back Ben Chilwell has suffered a “bad'” hamstring injury that will require further assessment.
The England international was forced off late on during the Blues’ 1-0 Carabao Cup victory over Brighton on Wednesday. Initially, there was optimism that the issue was not serious, however, manager Mauricio Pochettino has now confirmed Chilwell is set for another spell on the sidelines.
Speaking ahead of Monday’s London derby away to Fulham, Pochettino revealed: “The doctor told me it is a bad injury but we need to assess in the next few days.”
With Chelsea also currently missing first-choice right-back, Reece James, Pochettino admitted the absence of both will be felt but insisted the squad has the depth to cope. New signings, Marc Cucurella and Malo Gusto, were brought in as cover, while youngster Levi Colwill is another option at full-back.
Pochettino delivered better news on injuries to Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke, stating both could return against Fulham on Monday, as the Blues look to bounce back from recent disappointing form.
