October 19, (THEWILL) – Christopher Nkunku of RB Leipzig and Jonathan David of Lille, are allegedly Chelsea’s two main targets for the January transfer window.

Over the past 18 months, Nkunku has been in outstanding shape. He scored 35 goals in 52 club games last season, earning him his France debut in March as a result. The former Paris Saint-Germain forward is poised for a breakout World Cup campaign with the defending champions after being equally as impressive for Leipzig this season.

David will also be present in the World Cup, representing Canada in the nation’s first qualification since 1986 and only their second overall. In 11 Ligue 1 games this year with Lille, the 22-year-old has nine goals and two assists.

Nkunku has been a target for Chelsea for months, while David has just come to their attention. Chelsea reportedly had a preliminary medical on Nkunku during the most recent transfer window and are attempting to complete a deal in January for a price around £52 million, despite Leipzig’s desire to keep Nkunku through the of the current campaign.

Meanwhile, David’s contract with Lille runs through June 2025 and implies that it will be a costlier business with Chelsea needing to submit at least £60 million to persuade Lille to let him go.
