January 06, (THEWILL) – Chelsea booked their place in the fourth round of the 2024 FA Cup with a resounding 4-0 victory against Preston North End at Stamford Bridge, on Saturday evening.
The English Premier League giants were made to be patient by the Championship visitors but ultimately had too much quality as they put Preston to the sword in the second half.
The breakthrough came just before the hour mark when Mykhailo Mudryk’s tenacity created an opening for Malo Gusto to cross for Armando Broja, to glance a header into the bottom corner. Thiago Silva then headed home a second from a Cole Palmer corner as Chelsea turned the screw.
Raheem Sterling added a sublime free-kick before Enzo Fernández bundled in a fourth after a goalmouth scramble, confirmed by VAR after a lengthy check. The win continues Chelsea’s momentum, advancing their cup hopes as they target silverware in 2024.
For Preston and manager Ryan Lowe, this ends their giant-killing ambitions but they can be proud of their efforts against elite opposition. Chelsea now await the fifth-round draw as they attempt to plot their route to Wembley.
