December 05, (THEWILL) – Chelsea is finalizing a contract to hire Christopher Vivell, as a new director.
When Vivell first met with Chelsea earlier this year, he was a member of the RB Leipzig team. Shortly after, the Bundesliga team released him from his contract, allowing the Blues to advance the talks.
Since then, Chelsea and Vivell have reached an agreement on his contract conditions, but they have been unable to complete the transaction since the 35-year-old still has some loose ends in Germany to tie up first. Chelsea have not rushed either Vivell or Leipzig so as not to damage relations with the Bundesliga team ahead of the January transfer window.
Todd Boehly and the rest of the Chelsea hierarchy do not want to complicate matters since Christopher Nkunku has already agreed to join Chelsea at the end of the season and the Blues are now focused on bringing his teammate Josko Gvardiol to Stamford Bridge with him.
The route to Vivell has now become clear, and Chelsea is completing the latest addition to its boardroom. Before Laurence Stewart was offered the position of technical director, Vivell was initially anticipated to take the position. The Leipzig guy will now play a different role.
