BEVERLY HILLS, January 25, (THEWILL) – English Premier League side Chelsea have confirmed that club legend Frank Lampard has left the club as manager. His leaving comes less than 24 hours after the Blues’ FA Cup victory over Luton Town.

This news follows weeks of speculation about the possibility of Lampard continuing as boss due to their poor league form and a rash of poor results. Chelsea players were instructed not to report to the training ground until the afternoon with German Thomas Tuchel, former Paris Saint-Germain manager, touted as Chelsea’s next boss.

Lampard was under severe pressure recently agree a run of five defeats in their last eight games in the Premier League dragged the Blues down in ninth place on the League standings after spending some time at the summit this season.

An official statement from club confirming the development read:

“This has been a very difficult decision, and not one that the owner and the board have taken lightly. We are grateful to Frank for what he has achieved in his time as head coach of the club.

“There can never be a good time to part ways with a club legend such as Frank, but after lengthy deliberation and consideration it was decided a change is needed now to give the club time to improve performances and results this season.”

Club owner Roman Abramovich chimed in with some words is his own: “This was a very difficult decision for the club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, the board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as head coach and wish him every success in the future.

“He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge.”

It was not officially announced who will fill in the vacancy created by Lampard’s exit even as Tuchel’s name has come up as the news of the exit of the Blues’ club legend began making the rounds. It is expected that in no time, Chelsea will have another announcement to make to clear the air with Lampard’s replacement.
