January 11, (THEWILL) – Joao Felix’s loan transfer from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea has been finalised by all parties involved on Wednesday.
A rumoured loan price of €11 million (£9.7 million) would bring the 23-year-old striker to the Blues for the remainder of the season. Joao Felix extended his contract with Atleti until 2027 and there have been no official statements on the existence of a purchase option in this loan deal.
Joao Felix was heavily linked to moves to English Premier League rivals, Arsenal and Manchester United, but it is Chelsea, who won the drive to get Felix in an effort to turn around what has so far been an incredibly poor season at Stamford Bridge for the London side.
Since Graham Potter, took over as head coach from Thomas Tuchel, in September, Chelsea has struggled, unable to climb from their mid-table 10th position in the league while being properly beaten by Manchester City on Sunday, which saw them knocked out of the EFL Cup and FA Cup.
Felix joins David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, and Benoit Badiashile, as Chelsea’s fourth additions in the January transfer season and the Portugal international, who has managed five goals and three assists in 20 games (11 starts) for his side this season, will be hoping to improve on his inability to shine despite his nine-figure transfer from Benfica to Atletico in 2019.
