Chelsea Beat Liverpool To Record £115m Deal For Caicedo

August 14, (THEWILL) – Chelsea have completed the signing of Ecuadorian midfielder, Moises Caicedo, from Brighton and Hove Albion for a British record fee of £115 million.

The 21-year-old joins the Blues after impressing in the English Premier League, helping Brighton to their highest-ever finish. Caicedo emerged as one of the most sought-after young talents in Europe, with Liverpool initially looking set to sign him after having a £110 million bid accepted. However, the player opted for a move to Stamford Bridge over the Reds.

He made 53 appearances across two seasons for Brighton, being named their Player of the Season last campaign. The combative midfielder has already represented Ecuador 32 times, scoring at the World Cup in their 2-1 defeat to Senegal. Caicedo signed a new contract with Brighton in January amid interest from Arsenal but has now secured his dream transfer to a top-six club.

Upon completion of the deal, Caicedo said: “I am so happy to join Chelsea. I didn’t have to think twice when they called me, I just knew I wanted to sign for this big club. It’s a dream come true.”

He began his career at Independiente del Valle before joining Brighton in 2021. After being loaned to Beerschot, he broke into the first team last season, scoring his first goal against Manchester United. Caicedo follows former teammates, Marc Cucurella and Robert Sanchez, in swapping Brighton for Chelsea.
