May 07, (THEWILL) –Polevich Charles, a hit and run driver, has pleaded guilty over the crash that killed the father of popular American singer, Nicki Minaj, in New York in 2021.
Billboard reports that Charles Polevich appeared in Nassau County court on Friday, May 6, where he pleaded guilty to one count charge of leaving the scene of the accident and another count of evidence tampering, both felonies, stemming from the fatal February, 2021 accident that killed Robert Minaj.
Polevich, 71, who is a businessman, admitted leaving the scene of the February, 2021 accident that killed Robert Minaj, as he was walking along the road in Mineola.
Although Polevich faced up to seven years behind bars, the judge has committed to no more than one year in prison, disappointing the prosecutor and the hip pop singer’s mother.
He had initially got out of the car and looked at the injured man on the ground, but then drove off. He did not call emergency services, put his car in the garage and covered it with tarpaulin.
Minaj died the second day at the hospital. Polevich was later arrested and charged with leaving the scene of the accident and tampering with evidence. He will be back in church in August for his sentencing.
