September 08, (THEWILL) — The Federal Government has fully automated the evaluation and authentication of academic certificates, ending the need for applicants to make physical visits to the Federal Ministry of Education to process their credentials.
The Ministry announced the development on Tuesday, describing the reform as a major step in the Federal Government’s digital transformation agenda and part of efforts to modernise education governance.
Under the new system, applicants can complete the entire academic credential evaluation and authentication process online through the Ministry’s dedicated platform.
The move is expected to reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, shorten processing time, and improve transparency in the handling of academic qualification verification.
It also means applicants living outside Abuja and Nigerians residing abroad will no longer need to make physical trips to the Ministry for the service.
The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the automation would make the credential evaluation and authentication process more convenient and accessible to applicants within and outside Nigeria.
According to the Minister, the digital system is designed to eliminate some of the administrative delays associated with the traditional process while giving applicants a more convenient way to access government services.
The reform will allow applications and related credential verification processes to be handled through the designated online platform rather than requiring applicants to appear physically at the Ministry.
The Ministry said the automation would also improve transparency by providing a more structured process for handling credential evaluation and authentication requests.
System To Strengthen Academic Credential Integrity
Beyond convenience, the Ministry said the new digital system would strengthen the integrity and credibility of Nigeria’s academic certification system.
Alausa said the platform would enable institutions, employers and other relevant stakeholders to verify qualifications through a more structured and reliable process.
