Celebrities Supporting Funke Akindele’s Political Ambition

March 10, (THEWILL) – As the gubernatorial election approaches, celebrities within the movie industry have begun to openly endorse their preferred candidate.

One would expect that Funke Akindele, the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who is one of theirs, would have her colleagues falling over themselves to support her. But that hasn’t quite been the case.

Instead, only a few people have openly thrown their weight behind her political ambition.

Even those who seem very close to Jenifa, as she is fondly called, have looked the other way by endorsing other political candidates.

The duo of Alex Ekubo and Ruth Kadiri were the first to endorse the mother of two. Kadiri took to her Instagram page to state reasons for supporting the actress-turned-politician.

“It’s election season! and @funkejenifaakindele is my candidate. Reasons being, you’re hardworking, you’re smart, you’re tough, you’re emotional, above all, you’re disciplined. You dare to tread where others wouldn’t fly. You’re a risk taker. I know you’re a filmmaker. I trust you will do a good job. You have my vote,” she wrote.

Ekubo also took to Instagram to give his reasons for supporting Akindele. The actor urged Lagosians to elect someone accountable, empathetic, and accessible. He added that if elected, the Jandor/Funke administration will create a change that is different from the norm.

“This election cycle is about individuals the people want to vote for, people they can hold accountable, relatable people; people that are easily accessible, people that are not just sympathetic but empathetic to our plight and concerns.

“People want something different from the norm. This is why I believe in the Jandor/Funke campaign. Jandor ticks all the right boxes for Lagos at this time. I strongly believe if they are voted into office, they will bridge the gap between the government and the masses,” he wrote.

On her part, Kemi Afolabi subtly stated her choice for the forthcoming governorship election. She gushed over the fact that her colleague, Akindele, was a shoulder to lean on when she was diagnosed with Lupus.

Akindele sent her millions of naira and Afolabi took to Instagram to celebrate the generosity of the actress. The mother of one reminded fans of how she supported her financially. She prayed that her dreams of ruling Lagos State will come true while calling her “our incoming deputy governor”.

“Na so me sef wake to see millions in my account during my illness ordeal from @funkejenifaakindele. Na she still make sure everything cast for internet in her words ‘Kemi You can’t do it all alone’.

“Thank you for all you do, Olufunke. May Allah grant your heart desires, Happiness is yours forever just as you’re putting smiles on people’s faces even though you don’t know them personally. Love you my incoming DG,” Kemi Afolabi stated.

Tobi Makinde, one of the cast of Jenifa’s Diary and a close ally of Akindele, is also rooting for the actress.

The actor said he would rather vote for a leader, who is conversant with the problems of Lagos State and would be more than willing to solve them.

Monalisa Chinder Coker has also declared her support for the mother of two.

Coker affirmed that Akindele wouldn’t be held back by social norms or expectations, people’s opinions or interference.

Hailing her, Chinda described Akindele as a powerful woman. She saluted her and prayed for her to emerge victorious.

“This woman will not be held back by social norms or expectations, people’s opinions or interference.

“This is a powerful woman. I doff my hat to you! May Yahweh Elohim grant you all your heart desires!” she said.

Veteran actress, Patience Ozokwor, has also joined the league of Nollywood practitioners endorsing Akindele.

Mama G, as she is fondly called, believes her junior colleague will do a great job if given the opportunity.

She took to Instagram to praise Akindele ahead of the election.

“I love your tenacity and drive. You are hardworking, compassionate and trustworthy.

“You deserve every good thing and more. I have no doubt you will make a great leader. I wish you all the best and God’s favour. Although I cannot cast my vote in Lagos, know that I will be rooting for you,” she wrote.

Actress Motilola Akinlami is also in support of Akindele’s political ambition. The brand influencer has always made it known that her colleague and his running mate are the people she will vote for during the governorship election.

Skitmaker cum actor, Folagbade Banks, is another actor supporting Akindele. He once stated that he is like a son to the actress.

According to him, he has worked with the actress for a couple of years and saw how hardworking she is. He stressed that she is the kind of person needed in government, which is why he is rooting for her.

Plus-size model cum actress, Monalisa Stephen, is also a huge fan of Akindele’s political ambition. There is hardly any political post that Akindele makes that she will not like or have a positive thing to say about it.

She once took to her Instagram to challenge other thespians and asked why they are not supporting Akindele.

Stephen went as far as using Akindele’s picture as her background picture just to show how she is rooting for the actress.

Another actor, who has endorsed the Scene One production boss, is Bigval Jokotoye. Despite being based abroad, Jokotoye has not stopped showing his love to Akindele. He encouraged his fans to try the PDP governorship candidate and his deputy because they are youths.

Actor cum skit maker, Emeka Okoye, is a card-carrying member of the PDP, hence his support and endorsement for the candidate in his party, who is able to represent them at the state level.

Ufoma McDermot endorsed the deputy governor candidate of the PDP after writing in one of her comment sections that the actress is one of the entertainers capable of succeeding if given a chance to rule Lagos State.

Ayanfe Adekunle joined the league of actors supporting Funke Akindele after he took to Instagram to reveal that a vote for the actress is a vote for a new Lagos, which a lot of youths have been dreaming of.

The film producer begged his fans to believe in the dream of the Nollywood actress by supporting her.
