August 30, (THEWILL) – Valencia announced on Monday, that former Manchester United striker, Edinson Cavani, has signed a two-year contract to play for the club.
Since leaving Manchester United, which he joined from Paris Saint-Germain, where he amassed 200 goals, the 35-year-old Uruguayan has been a free agent. Valencia entered into negotiations with the player and his agents and reached a deal.
Announcing the signing, a Valencia club statement read: “Valencia CF have reached an agreement to sign Edinson Cavani for the next two seasons until the 13th of June, 2024.”
Gennaro Gattuso, a former Italian footballing pro, who won the Italian Cup with Napoli in 2020, is the manager of Valencia. The team came in ninth in La Liga last year and fell to Real Betis on penalties in the Copa del Rey final.
Cavani still has aspirations fuelling his desire to play in La Liga, as he has expressed a desire to compete at the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The veteran striker has scored 58 goals in 133 appearances for Uruguay.
