October 21, (THEWILL) – Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid had to settle for a 1-1 draw away at Sevilla on Saturday, despite dominating large periods of the La Liga clash. Madrid went behind through an own goal from David Alaba but Dani Carvajal’s late header earned the league leaders a point.
Madrid had two early goals disallowed in a bright start at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan. Federico Valverde saw a shot deflected in off Sergio Ramos but it was ruled out for offside. Jude Bellingham then rolled into an empty net but referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea had already blown to stop play.
Sevilla grew into the game and went ahead when Alaba turned a cross into his own net after 74 minutes. However, Madrid captain Carvajal rose highest to head home a 78th-minute Toni Kroos free-kick to snatch a draw.
It means Real Madrid go into next weekend’s El Clasico clash with Barcelona at the Nou Camp still top of La Liga on 25 points. Sevilla are 13th under new boss Diego Alonso after being denied a first win.
The match ended in drama with Real Madrid veteran Sergio Ramos heading over in stoppage time for Sevilla before Orjan Haskjold Nyland saved a last-gasp Kroos free-kick as it finished 1-1.
