January 04, (THEWILL) – Due to several positive COVID-19 tests in Jurgen Klopp’s squad, Liverpool’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Arsenal is doubtful.
Already, Liverpool’s training session scheduled for 4 pm on Thursday has been cancelled even though the club’s training facility, on the other hand, remains open.
As things stand, the match is still scheduled to take place, albeit it is thought that talks between Liverpool and the EFL have taken place but there has been no formal request to postpone the game for now.
The only clear midweek engagements in the domestic football season come following the Carabao Cup final, but there is optimism that games may be shifted if necessary.
Liverpool were without nine first-team players and their manager for their 2-2 draw with Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday, due to a combination of positive COVID-19 tests, injuries and suspensions.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita have all since reported for the Africa Cup of Nations with their respective teams, meaning Liverpool’s squad has been stretched even further.
Klopp himself and three members of his staff tested positive ahead of the club’s draw with Chelsea on Sunday and they also missed the Premier League match.
