Calvert-Lewin Fires Everton To Emotional Win Over Moyes’ West Ham

October 29, (THEWILL) – Everton emerged victorious 1-0 against West Ham United on Sunday, in an emotional match following the passing of Toffees chairman, Bill Kenwright, last Monday. Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the lone goal in the 51st minute to give Everton some breathing room from the relegation zone.

It was an emotional week for both clubs. Kenwright shared a close friendship with West Ham boss David Moyes from Moyes’ 11-year spell managing Everton. However, while the Hammers slumped to their third defeat in eight days, Everton secured just their second away win this season.

The first half saw few chances for either side. West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta and Everton’s Jack Harrison both failed to capitalise on opportunities. A drab first half finished 0-0, needing a goal to ignite the match.

That goal came six minutes into the second half courtesy of Calvert-Lewin. After winning the ball in midfield, Everton launched a counterattack finished by Calvert-Lewin. His 50th Premier League goal for the Toffees put Everton in front.

Everton almost doubled their lead late on but West Ham keeper Alphonse Areola denied Abdoulaye Doucoure. The Hammers failed to find an equaliser as Everton held on for three vital points.
