BEVERLY HILLS, March 19, (THEWILL) – Governor Garvin Newsom has ordered all residents of America’s most populous state, California to stay indoors till further notice as the state battles to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The governor announced the order Thursday evening.

“This is a moment we need to make tough decisions. We need to recognize reality. I can assure you home isolation is not my preferred choice, I know it’s not yours, but it’s a necessary one. ..

“This is not a permanent state, this is a moment in time.

“You can still take your kids outside, practicing common sense and social distancing. You can still walk your dog. If we are to be criticized at this moment, let us be criticized for taking this moment seriously,” he said.

Newsom, who projected that at least 56% of Californians will contract the virus over the next eight weeks, asked President Donald Trump in a letter Wednesday to send the USNS Mercy Hospital Ship to the port of Los Angeles.

There are 19 deaths in the state from the disease and over 900 confirmed cases, making the state the third most hit behind Washington State (1376) and New York State (5298) as at Thursday night.

Los Angeles County Mayor, Eric Garcetti had earlier on Thursday in a news conference ordered the closure of all indoor malls, shopping centres, playgrounds and non-essential businesses to help curtail the spread of the deadly disease.
