CAF Draws Unveil Exciting Path To Glory For Enyimba, Remo, Bendel Insurance, Rivers United

July 25, (THEWILL) – The draw for the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup took place in Egypt’s capital, Cairo, on Tuesday, revealing the matchups for the first preliminary stage.

A total of 54 clubs, representing 42 member nations, participated in the event to determine their opponents in the prestigious continental competitions. In the CAF Champions League, Nigeria’s representatives, Enyimba and Remo Stars, were drawn against clubs from Libya and Ghana, respectively. Enyimba, the reigning NPFL champions, faces a challenging encounter against Libyan side Ahli Benghazi. For Enyimba, this brings back memories of their previous CAF interclub competition where they were eliminated in the knockout phase by Al Ittihad.

On the other hand, Remo Stars, making their debut in the competition, will embark on a quest to overcome Ghana’s league leaders, Medeama, as they seek to progress to the second stage in the Champions League. In the CAF Confederation Cup, Bendel Insurance, the winners of the FA Cup, will enter the competition and face off against Algerian side ASO Chlef. This marks a significant milestone for Bendel Insurance, as it is their first opportunity in a long time to compete on the continent.

Meanwhile, Rivers United, a consistent contender in the CAF interclub competitions over the past three seasons, will wait for the second round to know their opponent, which will be determined between Etoile Filante from Burkina Faso and Ziguinchor from Senegal.

The first-round matches for both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup are scheduled to take place between August 18-20 in Libya and Ghana, respectively, for Enyimba and Remo Stars.
