Ahmad was a former Personal Assistant on New Media, to President Buhari. He had resigned his appointment to contest the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for Gaya, Ajingi, Albasu Federal Constituency, but lost.

He had contested against Mahmud Gaya, a lawmaker, who currently represents the constituency in the House of representatives. He secured 16 votes, while Gaya polled 109 votes.

Ahmad rejected the result, alleging that the primary election was not free and fair, and called for a fresh poll.

“I hereby categorically reject the process and proceeds of the primary election conducted on May 27, 2022, to elect the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer for the position of member House of Representatives for Albasu/Gaya/Ajingi Federal Constituency”, he had said.

The presidential social media handler is believed to be the only presidential aide ‘recalled’ by the president since the conclusion of the APC primaries.

All the cabinet ministers and presidential aides except Ahmad, who resigned to participate in the APC primaries, but failed to secure the party tickets, had since been replaced by the president.
